The City Council is planning to lay off all these people for
money reasons. Well, by letting go of the finance people, who is
going to collect the money owed to the city? They seem to be so
willing to lay off people, how about the City Council giving their
pay to the city. That way they can share the pain like the rest of
the people they are going to let go.
Isn’t the fire department understaffed? By letting go of the
chief, do you expect anyone would trust working for them again?
Try letting go of the city manager who is new to Hollister and
saving the local people their jobs. They are far more interested in
what happens to the city!

“OK, now I have heard it all. Inclusion of affordable housing is somehow going to lead to layoffs in the county. That’s just plain stupid. High priced single family dwellings are the reason we are in this predicament. If there was ever a drain on infrastructure and ag land, created by the least amount of citizens, it is SFD’s. Also, wasn’t the vote unanimous, not just Cruz and Kesler?

All building should occur in the city limits once the wastewater facility is operational and all associated infrastructure and that includes adequate police and fire protection is in place; with the city concentrating on affordable and multiple housing.

Did you know in the ’80s and ’90s we built almost no multiple housing? That trend has got to change unless all of you want your children living with you forever.

Infill of property should be given high priority. Quit the sprawl and start farming and ranching; that’s what you are supposed to do in rural areas. Leave the building in the city limits urban area where it belongs. Help the majority of the County Supervisors protect our pristine ag lands by voting YES ON MEASURE G and give them support not criticism regarding affordable housing ordinance. Unless you are all rich, this should be a no brainer for you.”

“To the individual who bravely wrote to the Citizens Voice column the following: ‘Finally, a governor with fortitude to tell it like it is. Levy NO MORE TAXES on the people of California. There’s plenty of mismanaged money in government, and it’s refreshing to hear the government acknowledge that fact.’

I agree there is mismanaged money. Just look to the current president if you need examples of mismanagement, but a proposed state bond of $15 billion is a tax as it has to be paid back and it is more money to be ‘mismanaged’ now and paid back at a higher cost later, and a proposed shift, the taking of, an additional $1 billion in local property tax funds is the taking of local tax dollars, which adds to the burdens that local communities face, and that is a tax as well. What will the brave writer do when he or she calls 911 and nobody answers? I hope you have a good first aid kit, some good hoses and a rifle because you are about to be on your own.

We have a federal government that has gone from a surplus to a deficit under the current president, 48 states are running deficits and local governments are near bankruptcy, and you say we have a governor with ‘fortitude.’ It will take more than Hollywood special effects and empty rhetoric to straighten out the mess this country, this state, this county and this city are in. Get real!”
