In response to a Citizens Voice from Jan. 6 regarding one of the
supervisors in District 2, Anthony Freitas, and the locations of
his campaign signs. Mr. Freitas is not an ignorant person. By
placing his campaign signs in areas other than his district, he is
reminding all voters there is an upcoming election, and voting is a
necessary part of democracy. The loose cannon that went off in
Jerry’s Restaurant was none other than District 5 supervisor. Mr.
Supervisor, you could benefit from a refresher course in courtesy.
Walls do have ears and some even have eyes.

“When a police officer takes a statement from a child witness, he must first determine if the child knows the difference between a truth and a lie. If that child is then required to testify in court, the process is repeated to the satisfaction of the court before the child is allowed to tell his story. If you are needing information from the DA these days, it might be prudent to first determine if he is still capable of telling the difference between right and wrong.”
“The Board of Supervisors just passed a 30-percent affordable housing requirement for subdivisions in the county.
Get ready county employees to get laid off! Low cost affordable housing does not pay its way to support government service to provide the necessary needs for the county! The tax base is lowered meaning less money for employee salaries. The county is headed in the same direction as the city.
The county has $1 million in reserve while the city has $9 million and the city sees the writing on the wall. What do the supervisors see?
Vote for a change in the March election as we sorely need it! Oh, Ruth Kesler and Bob Cruz were the two who voted for this ordinance and Bob Cruz was the author. I believe he saw votes coming his way for writing this ordinance. I only hope the people that live in his district will realize the damage he is doing to this county and will vote against him.
When the cuts come about due to lack of money for county employees, will these supervisors take a 50-percent cut in pay in their $60,000 salaries?”
“Well my fellow residents, now I have heard everything, as I am sure you have: lay off the fire chief. Absolutely incredible. As our illustrious city manager states, the fire chief is the only position that does not directly respond to emergencies. If your argument holds water, which it clearly does not, then put the police chief on the list, which is an equally ridiculous recommendation.
If I were the City Council, I would suggest you go back and do your homework and if you as city manager, came back with the same recommendation, you would be fired. Anyone on the council that even considers this action should either resign or be recalled.
That is right, you did put your name of the list of layoffs, Mr. Shaddox. The City Council should take you up on it. As the Mayor indicated, you provide no direct benefit to the city. Obviously, the question needs to be asked, and that is what is your real interest in the welfare Hollister? The mayor will accept your resignation in a year. Chief Garringer has committed himself to this city for the long haul.
Obviously, Mr. Shaddox, you have no concept of what it takes to run a fire department, nor does Mayor Bruscia or Councilman Conroy as members of the ‘subcommittee’ coming up with a recommendation such as this. Councilman Scattini, you of all the councilpersons should recognize this as being idiotic, you who is retired CHP officer and current marshal.”
