A Hollister official warned Monday that an agreement between the city and Hollister School District – for use of several school fields – was in limbo due to financial considerations.
City Manager Clint Quilter offered city council members an update on the ongoing matter during Monday’s regular meeting. It was not an action item on the city agenda.
In vague terms, Quilter said the district had sent a cancellation notice for use of fields at Maze Middle School and Rancho San Justo Middle School. It was unclear how many facilities were involved and what city programs a cancellation might affect.
“Which, quite frankly, if it were to stand,” Quilter said, “would really devastate our programs and would devastate a lot of other people’s programs.”
The city manager said he had spoken to district trustees during public comment of a recent school board meeting and that those board members had asked the superintendent to re-agendize the matter. He believes school officials may be reconsidering it and expects to bring forward an amendment at the council meeting June 17.
“They have to consider how much they’re charging,” Quilter said of the district.
Related dollar figures were not immediately available.
“I did want to let you know I received that letter,” Quilter said.
“Thank you,” replied Mayor Ignacio Velazquez. “That’s very important.”
