Our first Red Phone caller of the week, a local woman, asked the Crimson Crusader to get something done about the graffiti at the Daniel Yetter Memorial Skatepark.

The Crimson Crusader grabbed a skateboard and a helmet and went to check it out. Our hero noticed, during a backflip on the bowl, that the graffiti has become pretty bad. After a top-notch 720, our hero headed back to the newsroom and called up Hollister Parks Supervisor Marcelo Orta. He said he has noticed the graffiti and had added to his “to-do” list.

Unfortunately, Orta said it could be several months before he can address the problem. In the meantime, Orta said he’s hoping a group of skaters or others who use the park frequently will step forward and volunteer to clean up the unsightly mess. Interested volunteers should call the Hollister Parks Department at 636-4370.

Can somebody get that rooster to stop crowing?

Our next Red Phone caller, a local woman, complained to the Crimson Crusader that a rooster living somewhere near Suiter Street and behind South Street was waking her up far too early in the morning.

The Crimson Crusader knows how important sleep can be, so our hero immediately called Hollister Animal Control Director Julie Carreiro to see what could be done. Carreiro sent out one of her employees to search for the flightless fowl Tuesday afternoon. The Crimson Crusader will check back on this question next week. Stay tuned for more details.

Thanks for cleaning up all of those shopping carts

Our final Red Phone caller, a Hollister man, called the Crimson Crusader to thank our hero for rounding up all of the stray shopping carts. Well, dearest caller, that wasn’t our hero. That work was down by Hollister Code Enforcement Officer Mike Chambless. That being said, the Crimson Crusader will go ahead and pass on your heartfelt “Thank You” to Chambless.
