Chamberlain’s e-waste recycling
An e-waste recycling fundraiser is running through Tuesday at
1850 San Benito St. It’s sponsored by Eagle Recycling. People can
bring computers, monitors, fax machines, copiers, scanners, DVD and
VCR players, televisions and other household recycables such as
plastic, aluminum and glass. Drop off from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Help raise
funds for the organization’s new housing project.

Kindergarten registration

The Hollister School District will hold kindergarten registration Monday through Friday. Parents should bring a birth certificate, written proof of immunization, a Social Security number and proof of address. Registration times are as follows: Calaveras, 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3p.m.; Accelerated Achievement Academy – call 634-4963 to inquire about the program; Cerra Vista, 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.; Gabilan Hills, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m., 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.; Dual Language Academy – register at your neighborhood school; Ladd Lane, 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m., 2 p.m.-4 p.m.; R.O. Women’s Club meeting

The Women’s Club of Hollister meets Wednesday, Feb. 13 for its monthly

luncheon at Ridgemark Golf & Country Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The 93-year-old club is a member of the Greater Federated Women’s Clubs, one of the oldest women’s volunteer groups in America. Leadership fundraiser

Help give ‘tweens a place to hang out. Members of the Leadership San Benito class of 2008 will be selling 8-ounce boxes of See’s Candy at Hollister Flowers, 843 San Bento St., on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The money raised will be used for fund the ‘Tween Spot, a once-a-week hangout for kids ages 11 to 15 at the Hollister Community Center.

Book sale

A free workshop will be offered through San Benito County Behavioral Health beginning Thursday, March 31 at 6:15 p.m. at San Benito High School. The interactive workshop is for Spanish-speaking parents of 9-14-year olds to help you and your family learn the skills to work together and prevent unhealthy behaviors (such as using alcohol or drugs or gang involvement).

Meetings and Announcements

New members in Habitat

San Benito County Habitat for Humanity recently added two new members to its board of directors. Johny Van Dyke of South County Housing and Lori McClelland, a local real estate agent, joined the board as of January 2008.

These new members join Habitat Board President Ray Pierce, Vice-President Niessa-Bauder Guaracha, Secretary Sandi Hollenbeck, Treasurer Kathy Flores, Past President George Lewis, and Members Brian Abbott, Peggy Pierce, Jennifer Galindo, David Huboi and Scott Fuller.

Habitat for Humanity will undertake its first housing rehabilitation projects this year, with plans for two or three qualifying homes to be

repaired and rehabilitated. San Benito County Habitat for Humanity is also recognizing past board members who played such an important part in forming the organization and raising the funds to enable the rehabilitation projects to move forward. These past members include Cynthia Holthouse, Arthur Cantu, Mary Paxton, Lori Shackleton, Tina Tully, and Sandi Slonaker.

Women’s support group

Are you feeling pushed to your limit, isolated, depressed or misunderstood?

Have you been hit by a partner, emotionally abused or sexually assaulted?

If you’d like to talk to people who understand, contact Community Solutions about a Women’s Support Group. It runs 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Brain Injury Support

The Brain Injury Support Group meets from 6-8 p.m. every second and fourth Thursday of the month at Poblanita Restaurant, 313 Third St. in San Juan Bautista. Anyone who has had a brain injury, stroke or aneurysm is welcome to attend, along with caregivers, family and friends.

Republican Party meeting

The San Benito County Republican Party has changed its monthly meeting to the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pacific Coast Bank Community Room, 260 Tres Pinos Road, Hollister. The location is across Rancho Drive from the San Benito Bank.
