Book sale
The Friends of the Library’s next bookshed sales are Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shed is behind the library and Historical Society House at Monterey and Fifth streets. You can pick the books, maps or videos that interest you at $2 a bag.

CHP seatbelt program
The California Highway Patrol and student leaders will kick off assemblies for the IMPACT Seat Belt Safety Challenge. The goal is to educate teenagers about the importance of wearing a seat belt. The San Benito High School assembly is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in the gym. The CHP also reminds motorists not to drink and drive this Super Bowl weekend. Last year on Super Bowl Sunday there were 214 alcohol-related accidents statewide.

Fruit institute gathering at Vets Building
The annual Central Coast Counties Fruit Institute will be held in Hollister at the Veterans Memorial Building on Feb. 8 from 8:30 a.m until noon. This free event is sponsored by the University of California Cooperative Extension. Growers will receive 3-1/2 hours of pest management continuing education credit. Among the topics will be new respiratory protection regulations, insect pest management for apricots and cherries, rest-breaking treatments for cherries, Eutypa and other limb-dieback diseases, and bloom and fruit diseases of apricots and cherries.

Book sale
A free workshop will be offered through San Benito County Behavioral Health beginning Thursday, March 31 at 6:15 p.m. at San Benito High School. The interactive workshop is for Spanish-speaking parents of 9-14-year olds to help you and your family learn the skills to work together and prevent unhealthy behaviors (such as using alcohol or drugs or gang involvement).

Women’s support group
Are you feeling pushed to your limit, isolated, depressed or misunderstood?
Have you been hit by a partner, emotionally abused or sexually assaulted?
If you’d like to talk to people who understand, contact Community Solutions about a Women’s Support Group. It runs 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Brain Injury Support
The Brain Injury Support Group meets from 6-8 p.m. every second and fourth Thursday of the month at Poblanita Restaurant, 313 Third St. in San Juan Bautista. Anyone who has had a brain injury, stroke or aneurism is welcome to attend, along with caregivers, family and friends.

Republican Party meeting
The San Benito County Republican Party has changed its monthly meeting to the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Pacific Coast Bank Community Room, 260 Tres Pinos Road, Hollister. The location is across Rancho Drive from the San Benito Bank.
