Ladd Lane students exchange letters with pen pals

Third-grade students in Lou Ann Sackett’s class and sixth-grade students in Maylani Mahler’s class at Ladd Lane Elementary School wrote letters to pen pals from the Philippines at the beginning of the school year. Sackett, who traveled to the Philippines with Grace Bible Church during the summer, coordinated with members of the church to present the letters to students at Gamut Central Elementary School in Tandag, Philippines.

The letters helped the sixth-grade students to meet such standards as studying ancient civilizations in social studies and the third-grade students to meet the standard of writing a friendly letter. The students waited all year for a response from their pen pals. The letters arrived in May due to the school needed to raise the funds to mail the letters back to the United States. Mahler’s sixth-grade students received their letters on May 23 and the third-grade students got theirs on May 25.
