The San Benito County coroner has identified the two fatal victims in last week’s accident on Highway 156.

The two Stockton men killed in the accident were Donaciano Delatorre-Mercado, 43, and Godofredo Sarabio, 32, according to authorities.

The two men killed in the afternoon wreck on Highway 156 near Lucy Brown Lane were passengers in a 2001 Chevrolet Metro driven by Pedro Vargas, 45, also from Stockton, according to the California Highway Patrol. Vargas sustained major injuries to his ribs, pelvis and head, along with internal bleeding, according to the CHP.

According to the CHP, Vargas was eastbound and lost control of the car at about 2:45 p.m., driving it into the right shoulder and over-correcting into the westbound lane, according to the CHP. A 2008 Acura TL driven by a 49-year-old woman from Carmichael was in that westbound lane and struck the Chevy. The Chevy then continued moving in the westbound lane and was struck by a 2006 Volvo big rig.

Authorities pronounced the fatal victims dead at the scene and transported the driver to Regional Medical Center of San Jose.

There were no other injuries reported, and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor. It is still under investigation.
