Hollister City Council members tonight are set to consider a proposed social-host ordinance with the intent of strengthening provisions against parents providing alcohol to minors.

Council members are set to meet at 6:30 p.m. today at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.

The ordinance would prohibit the commissioning of social gatherings “at any location not open to the public where one or more persons under the age of 21 are consuming alcoholic beverages.” It would apply to any social gathering not open to the public, including events at the Veterans Memorial Building.

The first offense would carry a fine of $500, with the second offense $750 and the third $1,000

Mayor Victor Gomez has been working on creating the ordinance with the city attorney, the police department and the health department.
