Across John Smitth Road, looking across from the landfill, will be the new location of the Resource Recovery Park.

After months of debate, county supervisors Tuesday are set to consider requesting proposals to operate at a Resource Recovery Park at the John Smith Landfill.
The highly debated project already passed several major hurdles – including a zone change and approval of the environmental review – as neighbors continue opposing the landfill expansion project, citing concerns over such issues as traffic and environmental stewardship.
County and landfill officials have been planning the project that is intended to provide business opportunities in such areas as solid waste storage, transfer, treatment, processing and other activities related to waste or recycling, according to the county’s environmental impact report. The Resource Recovery Park proposal would be located on 30 acres owned by San Benito County south of the John Smith Road Landfill.
On Tuesday at the 9:30 a.m. meeting at the County Administration Building, 481 Fourth St., county supervisors are scheduled to weigh taking the next major steps in the process. Their plan is to consider approving an intent to lease public property and to request proposals from potential bidders.
