County supervisors Tuesday will hear about prospective costs to fix local roads and possibly use a sales tax to do it.
County supervisors are set for a special meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the County Administration Building, 481 Fourth St. They will hear from David Leifer, senior managing director at KNN Public Finance about potential approaches to finance road construction with a sales tax. Officials are looking at alternative ways to fund ailing infrastructure, such as roads, without dipping into a deficit-ridden general fund.
Additionally on Tuesday, Interim Public Works Director Joe Horwedel will present a breakdown of associated costs for a range of possible road work throughout the county.
A total chip seal job on roads in the county would cost about $12.4 million, while a total overlay would cost about $31.6 million, according to county estimates. Public works would do one or the other, not both, according to the agenda report.
The county includes 178.9 miles of roads needing treatment, according to the agenda report.
