San Benito County’s mail participation rate on the 2010 census
was slightly higher than the state and national averages, according
to recently released figures.
The county had a 73 percent participation rate. Hollister had a
74 percent rate. And San Juan Bautista had a 70 percent return
rate, according to figures presented to the board of supervisors in
May.
The county’s return rate by mail also was slightly higher than
the 2000 number, when San Benito had a 71 percent rate, according
to the figures.
Comparably, Monterey County had a 69 percent return rate by
mail, and Santa Cruz County had a 72 percent rate.
Statewide, the return rate was 71 percent. Nationally, it was 72
percent.
