The life of a superhero is not all bank heists and fist fights. The Crimson Crusader spends a lot of his workweek as a traditional do-gooder by helping old ladies cross the street.

But lately he’s spending more time than usual helping everyone cross a particular street – Fourth and Monterey streets.

Cars stopped on Monterey Street attempting to turn left onto Fourth Street have very little vision of oncoming traffic driving on Fourth Street. Countless times has our hero used his own body to shield unsuspecting pedestrians and drivers from speeding cars who drive blindly into the intersection.

This week’s Red Phone caller suggested the parking spot on the southwest corner of the intersection be removed so drivers can see the oncoming traffic and pedestrians; before they run down Grandma with their Honda Civic.

Our hero asked Hollister Civil Engineer David Rubcic about the dangerous crossroad and whether the parking spot could be removed.

“I know it’s a very difficult intersection,” he said. “For pedestrians it’s important to make eye contact with drivers before you cross the street to make sure they see you. For other drivers you just need to make sure you are paying attention. As far as removing the parking spot – all I can say is we will look into it and if action is necessary we’ll take it.”
