New chair, vice chair selected

At the first board of supervisors meeting of the year, Jaime De La Cruz was nominated to be the board chairman for the year and Margie Barrios, the chairwoman in 2011, was nominated to be the vice chair. De La Cruz also announced the new committee assignments for the supervisors for the year.
“I want to congratulate you on a fine job done as chair in 2011,” said Supervisor Anthony Botelho to Barrios, who relinquished the center seat for De La Cruz. “You ran the meetings with professionalism.”
De La Cruz presented a plaque to Barrios for her service.
“Thank you,” Barrios said. “I feel the board has been so respectful and diligent. I am sure this year will be just as challenging. We did a lot of work, with ordinances impacting the general plan, the 911 consolidation. Thank you. I really appreciate the support you’ve given.”
De La Cruz took a few moments at the beginning of the meeting to speak.
“Thank you for joining us for the first meeting of the year,” he said. “I thank the employees of San Benito County and the community. Together we can get through these challenging times.”
He talked about the shrinking budget and the need to maintain services in the county.
“I invite citizens and employees to come to us and let us know your priorities for 2012,” he said.
