The 30th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival kicked off Friday morning
with a special dedication to Val Filice, the founder of the
festival who died late last year.
Festival President Ed Struzik lit a torch off the large metallic
garlic bulb and passed it along a line to Gourmet Alley, where it
was used to light the burners.
