A ceremony to dedicate the new, life-sized statue of the late Eric Tognazzini is set for March 21.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. March 21 at the site near the Briggs Building downtown where the statue will be placed. The sculptor is expected to bring the piece of public art for installation on the day of the ceremony, said Mark Tognazzini, Eric’s brother.
“He’s going to actually bring it in that morning,” Mark Tognazzini said.
Organizers behind a life-sized statue of the late Eric Tognazzini have been working on the project for almost three years. Tognazzini was a disabled resident known for his positive spirit and recycling business on three wheels. The Hollister council has approved placing the bronze-covered statue near the east side of the Briggs Building by the grassy lot along Fourth Street and recently approved a resolution to officially accept the statue as a donation to the city.
Mark Tognazzini has helped to lead the effort and mentioned how Santa Cruz-based sculpture Sean Monaghan has done the work. Organizers raised more than $50,000 through the Community Foundation for San Benito County from more than 300 donors.
