Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 19-year-old woman near San Benito High School on the first day of classes Monday because the Hollister resident had been told she is not allowed on the campus and was spotted nearby yelling for someone’s attention on the grounds, according to a sheriff’s sergeant.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office arrested her at about 3 p.m. Monday around the time school lets out. A deputy driving by noticed her across from the main building on campus trying to get a student’s attention, said Detective Sgt. Tony Lamonica of the sheriff’s office.

Lamonica said she had been told during the 2010-11 school year she is not allowed on campus because she was not a student.

When a deputy placed her in custody, she kicked out the rear passenger window of the squad car, Lamonica said. The same person had been wanted on a misdemeanor warrant, he said.
