Trustees unanimously endorsed Superintendent Gary McIntire's plans for Calaveras School at this week's meeting.

Hollister School District trustees voted this week to make a provisional appointment instead of calling a special election to fill a vacant position after their board president resigned in late August.
The former board president, Ben Flores, resigned because he had moved outside the district’s boundaries.
“I regretfully did this,” Flores told trustees at the board meeting in late August, later adding that he had moved outside the district and into San Juan Bautista. “I had no other choice but to get up and go.”
Trustees voted 4-0 in favor of making an appointment during a special meeting Sept. 8.
The district notified the county superintendent of the vacancy Aug. 24, and then a timeline began, according to a press release from the district office. The district was given 60 days to decide between holding a special election and making an appointment.
A successfully appointed candidate would serve in the seat until the next regular election, according to the press release. The board will continue to conduct business with four members until a fifth is selected.
If the board chose a provisional appointment, it would need to post that decision publicly and call for letters of interest to serve on the board, the superintendent explained during the meeting in late August. Then, in public session, the board would interview all qualifying candidates, who must be at least 18 years old; registered voters; living within the district boundaries; and not disqualified from serving for such reasons as being convicted of a felony, he said.
