In the past, a dove release has been held at Fire Station No. 2. This year, the Hollister event will be at the Veterans Memorial Building.

A release of white doves in Hollister was part of a nationwide remembrance Saturday for the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The local release involved about 40 doves and took place at the Hollister fire station on Union Road on the ninth anniversary of Sept. 11. In total throughout the country, in the White Wings Over America iniative put on by the National White Dove Release Society, there were about 3,000 doves taking part.

The Hollister release at 9 a.m. Saturday was among four in Northern California. Shannon German of Central Coast Doves handled the local release. It is the second year of the dove release to commemorate the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
