Blood drives held once a month in SBC
Last week the American Red Cross hosted a blood drive in memory
of Ray Becker, the El Rancho San Benito project manager who died
Oct. 7, 2008. He was 59.
Staff from the American Red Cross hold a blood drive the first
Thursday of the month in San Benito County, and often have more
than one when another organization decides to sponsor one, such as
the December blood drive held at San Benito High School.

Last week the American Red Cross hosted a blood drive in memory of Ray Becker, the El Rancho San Benito project manager who died Oct. 7, 2008. He was 59.
Staff from the American Red Cross hold a blood drive the first Thursday of the month in San Benito County, and often have more than one when another organization decides to sponsor one, such as the December blood drive held at San Benito High School.
The next drive is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hollister Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1670 Cienega Road. To donate, locals can call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit www.BeADonor.com and enter “San Benito” to make an appointment at a future blood drive.
Only three out of 100 Americans donate blood, according to Red Cross statistics. While donors fill out a questionnaire with trained staff to find out if they are eligible, the general requirements are that a person be healthy, be at least 17 years old (parental permission is required for those under 18), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated whole blood in the last eight weeks, or double red cells in the last 16 weeks.
