The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hollister is hosting an emergency preparedness fair and open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The emergency preparedness fair at 1670 Cienega Road will involve such groups as the fire department, American Red Cross, the local ham radio organization and the Boy Scouts, while the Family History & Genealogy Center will be open to the public as well.
Church member Gary Cameron is helping to run the event and mentioned how he expected to have such items as solar cookers and a parabolic cooker there, and said the educational component will touch on areas like food storage and preservation, or water storage and purification.
“We believe emergency preparedness starts with the family unit,” Cameron said.
