Encarnacion Ponce died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. She was 83.
Mr. Ponce was born in Mexico and had lived in San Benito County since the 1960s. He worked for Nob Hill Foods in the maintenance department and had worked for many years as a welder and carpenter in the Imperial Valley. He also worked for K&S Market for many years.
He was a member of Old Mission San Juan Bautista and the Retail Clerks Union AFL-CIO. He enjoyed woodworking and doing jigsaw puzzles of artist Thomas Kincaid’s work.
He is survived by his wife of more than 45 years, Juana Ponce of San Juan Bautista; his children and their spouses, Elva and Alfredo Galvan, Sal and Rosie Cortez and Virginia Ponce, all of San Juan Bautista; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 4 from noon to 9 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may gather at the funeral home Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 9:15 a.m. to proceed to Old Mission San Juan Bautista for a Mass at 10 a.m. Interment and graveside services will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.
