The Gilroy Garlic Festival is accepting recipes for its annual Great Garlic Cook-off Recipe Contest.
Eight finalists will be selected by a panel of five celebrity judges to prepare their garlicky dishes at the 25th Anniversary Gilroy Garlic Festival July 25-27. The winner will receive $1,000 and an honorary crown of garlic. The second-place recipe will be awarded $750, third place will receive $500 and the remaining five finalists will each receive $100.
Recipes must be original and specify at least six cloves of fresh garlic or the equivalent packaged form. They must serve six and take less than two hours to prepare. Professional chefs and other food specialists are not allowed to enter.
Complete contest rules are posted at the festival’s Web site, www.gilroygarlicfestival.com. Entries must be postmarked no later than May 1. Recipes should be submitted via e-mail to clove@gilroygarlicfestival. com or mailed to Gilroy Garlic Festival Association, PO Box 2311.
