The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments is presenting an award to the San Benito County Fairgrounds for its use of more than $100,000 in energy-efficient equipment donated by AMBAG and expected to save a six-figure sum annually.

The regional organization’s Energy Watch program will present the “Energy Efficient Leadership Award” at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Marina Library Community Room.

AMBAG in its announcement said the local fair – part of the 33rd Agricultural District – has “taken a leadership role in achieving energy efficiency” through the retrofitting that was finished in January.

The organization estimated the new equipment will save the fair about 912,000 kilowatt-hours annually – or a savings of $109,515 each year.

Kelley Ferreira, CEO of the fairgrounds, will receive the award for the Tres Pinos organization.

The announcement went on to note: The AMBAG Energy Watch program has been serving local governments, special districts, school districts, non-profits, hospitality businesses and residents since 2006 to support energy efficiency and climate action planning for the region.

The AMBAG Energy Watch is a partnership between the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). This program is funded by California utility customers and administered by PG&E, under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
