A Hollister man and a two local teenagers were injured in an accident Friday afternoon at the intersection of Fairview and Santa Ana Valley roads that shut down a section of Fairview for nearly 30 minutes.
The 17-year-old Hollister boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was taken by helicopter to San Jose Medical Center where he is being treated for severe injuries sustained in the accident 4:19 p.m. accident.
A 17-year-old Hollister girl, whose name was also not released because of her age, was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where she was treated for minor cuts and bruises and later released, the California Highway Patrol said.
Baron Porteur, 54, of Hollister reportedly sought medical treatment on his own at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. He was treated for moderate injuries and later released, his family confirmed Saturday.
The accident happened when a black Honda Civic driven by the unnamed female youth with the 17-year-old boy as a passenger was reportedly westbound on Santa Ana Valley Road at 70 to 75 mph, the CHP said.
As the youth reached the Fairview Road intersection, she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection directly in front of a 1977 Chevrolet pickup driven by Porteur, the CHP said.
Porteur, who was southbound on Fairview at a speed of 45 to 50 mph, could not stop in time to avoid the accident and struck the Honda’s passenger side at nearly full speed, the CHP said.
The force of the collision sent the Honda skidding to a stop off the west side of Fairview as Porteur’s pickup skidded to a stop just past the center of the intersection, the CHP said.
No one was arrested and crash and investigators said there are no indications that alcohol or drugs were involved. The accident is under investigation.
