Fatal car wreck on U.S. 101

At 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, the California Highway Patrol reported a fatal car crash on northbound U.S. 101 and Leavesley Road.

A Nissan Pathfinder was getting on the northbound U.S. 101 ramp from Leavesley Road. A Chevy pickup truck was traveling in the fast lane when the Nissan began to merge. The Nissan lost control and spun out into the fast lane because of wet road conditions, according to CHP Officer Erica Elias.

The passenger of the Nissan, and adult male, may have not been wearing a seat belt and died from trauma. The driver of the Nissan also has serious injuries.

The occupants of the truck were unharmed, Elias said.

One lane of U.S. 101 was opened at 1 p.m., but traffic was very slow.
