The father of the 21-year-old who was killed last month at a party in Hollister was shot at a barbecue Saturday night in an attempted murder.
Robert Barraza Sr., 40, was taken to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital after he was shot in the abdomen by an unknown suspect on Saturday. He was later transported to a Bay Area hospital where he was in stable condition Monday, said officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.
Police have no suspects, but they believe the shooting was gang related, Betanio said.
The shooting occurred at some point before 8:47 p.m. Saturday. Barraza and his friends were having a barbecue at a house on Hawkins Street when a single shot was fired from a dark sedan-type vehicle, police said. The bullet struck the victim in his abdominal area, police said.
Although there were several witnesses, there was no description available of the suspect, Betanio said. She said it was also unknown if there was a single suspect or more than one.
The case is still under investigation, Betanio said.
The victim was the father of Robert Anthony Barraza who was shot and killed October 14 after an altercation between two groups during a party on Valaire Drive. That case is still open.
Anyone with information on the shooting should call Hollister police at 636-4330.
