Despite dropping its previous two games, the San Benito High football team earned the No. 1 seed in the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs on Sunday, and will open with No. 8 Independence on Friday night in Hollister.
Kick-off is 7 p.m.
The Balers finished the regular season with an 8-2 overall record, and return to the postseason after a two-year absence where they will square off with a 6-3-1 Independence team.
A victory would advance San Benito to the Division I semifinals, where it would play the winner between No. 4 Salinas (6-4) and No. 5 Andrew Hill (7-1-2) — two teams the Balers have already previously defeated this season.
On the opposite end of the Division I bracket, No. 6 Gilroy (4-5-1) will battle No. 3 Milpitas (8-2), and No. 7 Watsonville (7-3) will play No. 2 Piedmont Hills (8-2).
More to come.
