For the eighth year, the Community Foundation for San Benito County will be sponsoring a National Philanthropy Day event in order to recognize “that the spirit of giving is alive and well,” according to a press release from the foundation.

The buffet luncheon will be held at San Juan Oaks Golf Club at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 13 and will cost $30 per person. This event is celebrated throughout the nation. Tickets will not be available at the door and the maximum group size is eight.

Community Foundation Executive Director Gary Byrne said this is “an event to say, ‘thank you.'”

“Nobody is selling anything or buying anything. We’re just honoring people in the community.”

The release said this: “At this celebration of community spirit, we are able to recognize and commemorate this national proclamation. This is our chance to step into the spotlight for a brief moment and remind our communities, our society and the world that the spirit of giving is alive and well.”

Last year, more than 50 nonprofit organizations attended the event and 49 contributors from the community were recognized. Byrne said even children were honored last year and there is a broad range in the ages of recipients.

“It covers the gamut from the young to the old.”

Community Foundation Community Outreach Director Colleen Conley said this event is “important” during these economic times.

“In this economy, it is important for these people to be singled out.”

If you would like to nominate someone to be recognized at the luncheon, you can contact anyone at the Community Foundation office at 630-1924 or nominate someone on its Web site at www.cffsbc.org. All forms needed to nominate an individual are available there.

Only one person will be recognized per organization, even if the whole group is nominated. The only exception is for husband and wife teams nominated together. The only other requirement is to submit a 100-word script about the candidate with the forms.
