Gavilan Community College will host its annual health and resource event, called “High on Health Fair,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Gavilan College Student Center at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd in Gilroy.

According to a press release sent from the college, “during these difficult economic times, Gavilan College is offering these services to anyone in the community, regardless of their financial situation.”

The event, which regularly draws more than 1,500 visitors, is free and open to people of all ages. Evaluations can be performed on small children, as long as their parent or guardian is present.

More than 51 representatives from local organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Chamberlains Mental Health Services, the Department of Rehabilitation, Compassion Pregnancy Services and STD Clinic, Breast Cancer Connections and Community Solutions will be in attendance. Visitors will have an opportunity to speak with each representative, get referrals for counseling and be tested for blood pressure, blood glucose and HIV/AIDS (which is confidential and involves no needles). The Gilroy Lions Club will also be offering free vision screenings by a licensed optometrist.
