Gilroy – Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s first defense of his International Boxing Federation featherweight title will be Nov. 4 in Las Vegas, as reported last week in the Dispatch.

The hard-hitting Gilroy fighter will defend his title against IBF No. 1 contender Orlando Salido at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on a card that features Floyd Mayweather Jr. defending his World Boxing Council welterweight belt against Carlos Baldomir.

“The fight is on,” said Mario Serrano, Guerrero’s publicist. “We’re looking forward to it. It will be an HBO pay-per-view fight.”

Guerrero, 23, won the title Sept. 2 with an eighth-round TKO of Eric Aiken at the Staples Center. After the fight, he talked about wanting to keep busy. Guerrero’s promotional team, Goosen Tudor, wasted little time in putting the fight together.

In the 25-year-old Salido of Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, Guerrero (19-1-1, 12 knockouts) will be facing an opponent with a 27-9-2 record and 18 KOs. However, seven of his losses came in his first 18 bouts. His only loss in the last five years has been to Juan Manuel Marquez, the former WBA featherweight titleholder who is on the short list of boxers Guerrero would like to fight. Salido’s most recent fight was Aug. 19 when he stopped Franner Trinidad in the first round.

The fight will be Guerrero’s fourth in the last six months.
