GILROY
The head of Gilroy’s Economic Development Corporation will take a new job in mountainous Tuolumne County.
The EDC board met this morning to discuss finding a replacement for Larry Cope, president since July 2005. The board also plans to host a partner luncheon March 23 to discuss the matter further, said Jane Howard, director of the Gilroy Visitor’s Bureau.
The job Cope will take is a new position resulting from a recent Joint Powers Agreement and will allow him to have some amount of control in developing his team and vision. Tuolumne County has about 54,000 residents – about the same as Gilroy – according to the 2000 census.
The Gilroy EDC suffered a setback this year, cutting 20 percent of its $100,000 budget.
Howard, who was the runner-up to Cope when the position was available, said she has no plans to make a bid for president.
“I really really enjoy what I’m doing here,” she said of the Visitor’s Bureau.
More information on this developing story will be posted as information becomes available.
