I was calling about your question about the San Benito
basketball team making a postseason run.

I was calling about your question about the San Benito basketball team making a postseason run. I definitely think they have it in them, just simply because they’re coached by John Becerra. Any team that he coaches, they always play with intensity and hustle. So, I definitely think they have a shot this year. Anyway’s, that’s my thoughts. Have a good one.
Green Phone
Thanks caller. While Green Phone has only been to a couple of boys basketball games this season, the squad seems to be hitting their stride as of late.
San Benito, after starting the year 2-3, are winners of their last three games, defeating Monta Vista, Fremont and Pacific Grove. Considering they have yet to play a home game in the comforts of Mattson Gym, a 5-3 record is not too shabby, and we’re sure their hustle and intensity certainly helped in attaining that.
Also consider that it took the squad until Jan. 3 last season to earn their fifth win of the year. San Benito accomplished that feat this season on Dec. 11 at Pacific Grove, a team that GP thinks is totally legit.
It’s still early in the season, of course. GP knows this. But Becerra seems to be moving the team in the right direction.
Their biggest test of the season to date will come tonight at Watsonville, who are 9-2 and recent champions of the Seascape Resort Invitational in Aptos, a tournament San Benito played in.
With Watsonville already owning a 3-1 record against TCAL opponents, well, the ‘Balers will need every ounce of intensity and hustle tonight at 7:30 p.m.
