The Guerra concert series is set to kick of this Saturday with shows by The Dizzy Burnett Jazz Trio and Shakedown. It is set to run for eight weeks through Aug. 22.

Al Guerra, who is promoting the concerts, said he has been receiving word from people out of the area who plan to attend the show. He said he just talked to a woman from Gilroy with friends on the Peninsula who plan to go Saturday because of an advertisement put out in Wine and Travel Magazine.

The show begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday and is scheduled to end at 9 p.m. This show also coincides with Passport Weekend, which celebrates county wine growers.

“Looks like the thing with the wine growers should be good,” Guerra said in reference to the Passport Weekend.

All the concerts will be held on Saturday nights at the Guerra Ranch.

“Most concerts are $10 and kids [12 and under] are free,” Guerra said. “Unless it is a big name [group.]”

The exception is for the Fourth of July show, which features the groups Y&T and Vent. Tickets for that show are $20 for adults and kids ages 9 and under are free.

The Fourth of July concert has been getting “a lot of good reaction,” Guerra said.

“Y&T have a pretty good following, and we’ve already sold 25 tickets for the Fourth of July.”

The August 22 show should also be big. Guerra said that radio host and musician Greg Kihn might be coming to do a show.

“He had that date open and we had that date open.”

“Looks like we’re going to have some good reaction,” he added.

Other bands that will be playing at the ranch include Extra Large and The Kelly McDonald Band.

Guerra said that food, beer and wine will be sold at the eight shows throughout the summer. Gates will open one hour before show time and no outside food or beverages are allowed. Lawn chairs are allowed in the amphitheater with low backs and a maximum seat height of 12 inches from the ground.

If you would like more information on the concerts or to RSVP for a spot at the shows, visit the Guerra Concerts Web site at www.guerraconcerts.com. The shows will take place at 500 John Smith Road, in Hollister.
