Heavenly Quilting, the newest store in San Juan Bautista, will be holding its grand opening Saturday, Aug.16.

Diana Galloway, the store’s owner, moved with her family from San Jose to San Juan Bautista three years ago and decided in May to open the store with the help of her husband.

“We decided to take a plunge,” she said.

After opening an Internet business that didn’t work out, Galloway decided to put her favorite hobby to good use. The store, which has been open for almost four weeks, has been a scary but fun undertaking, Galloway said.

“We’ve been pretty successful so far,” she said. “We’re hoping to be pretty busy on Saturday.”

The town has been very receptive to the new store, with residents stopping by to voice their approval, she said.

“It’s great to see people’s expressions when they walk by and don’t know we’re here,” she said. “They come in and tell me the town has needed something like this.”

The store’s main focus is selling quilting material for people who are making their own. It offers quilting classes from beginning to advanced and employs several teachers.
