Hollister resident Henry Santos Cruz died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Stanford University Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Cruz was born in Piti, Guam and had lived in Hollister for a year and a half. He had been a California resident for 30 years, having lived in San Jose and on the Monterey Peninsula. He was retired after a 21-year career in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and retired with the rank of sergeant. He was a former member of the Queen of Apostle Catholic Church in San Jose and the Knights of Columbus in Marina.

He is survived by his wife, Hiromi Cruz of Hollister; his children, Dorothy C. Balochie and her husband, Eric, of Hollister, and Henry Cruz and his wife, Deniece, of Oakland; his grandchildren, Evan Balochie of Hollister and Brandon Cruz of Oakland, and a brother.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Benedict Church for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial and graveside services will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
