Lindsay says put safety first

Dear Lindsay,

My younger brother hangs out at the skate park a lot, but he never wears a helmet. Should I tell my parents or is there anything I can do to get him to wear one?

-Worried He’ll Crash

Dear Worried,

It is very important to tell your parents. A lot of outside injuries are head injuries caused by lack of helmet wearing. You, your parents, and your little brother should all sit and discuss the importance of safety and the reasons as to why it is important to wear a helmet. If he simply refuses to wear one, have your parents take his skateboarding privileges away.

Dear Lindsay,

I really want to try out for the high school softball team, but I haven’t played in a few years. What should I do?

-Rusty Player

Dear Rusty,

Hopefully you have been going to the after school conditioning that the high school has been providing. If not, make sure you are practicing at home to get back into the swing of things. You have played before, so you pretty much know how everything goes. Stay positive and try your hardest. Not everyone makes the team, but as long as you do your best to show them what you got, then that’s all there is to it. Just have faith in yourself.

Dear Lindsay,

My parents want to limit how much time I spend on the Internet each night and it sucks because I won’t be able to talk with my friends. What can I do to show them I am careful and responsible online?

-Online Chatterbox

Dear Online Chatterbox,

I’m sorry your parents are limiting your amount of online time. Could it be that maybe they want you to focus on school more? If it is a responsibility issue, then have your parents check on you to see where you have been. Every site you go to is automatically logged into the computer. All they have to do is before you get off, click the scroll bar to check. As long as you let them know what site you’re going to and why, then I’m sure they will lay off a bit. The internet can be a scary place these days, so communication is definitely an important factor.

Dear Lindsay,

I am going away to college next year and I really want to set up my own checking and savings accounts. How can I do that?

-Checking for Tips

Dear Checking for tips,

Congrats on your college acceptance! Go to the bank with your parents and talk about opening an account. Some accounts can be set up so they can put in money while you’re in college as well. I’m sure it shouldn’t cost that much, if anything, to open an account. The banks will tell you all the steps you need to go through.
