Finding the right dining venue for prom may mean eating out-of-town

Hi, Lindsay,

My friends and I are going to the prom and we want to go out to dinner before. Where is a good place to eat that’s nicer than usual but not totally expensive?

-From dying to dine

Dear Dying to Dine,

I, myself am having this same problem. There aren’t a lot of places here in town. In town, we have The Vault, but sometimes they can be a little pricey and very full.

Your best bet is Gilroy, Salinas, Los Banos, and maybe even San Jose. Take a look at budget, timing, and travel arrangements to know exactly what you want. Remember, a lot of nicer restaurants will have some pretty high prices, but not too expensive.

Dear Lindsay,

I am a junior and I am getting ready to take the SAT and the ACT tests. What is the best way to prepare for them and how important are they for getting into college?

-From ready to study

Dear Ready,

SATs are hard work. I just finished mine. Most colleges are just looking for one or the other. If you go online to collegeboard.com, you can register, and search any college you want, whether it is community, or a four-year university. Check to see which one they prefer.

There are many ways you can prepare for both of them. The most important thing is don’t study too hard. Just relax. You can go to a book store or online and fine a nice study book. All the books have sample questions in both English and math, and tell you how to solve them. For the SATs, you will have ten sections that are timed. The sections will either be 20-25 minutes long. Also, one important skill to learn is to be able to write an essay in 25 minutes, with very minimal space. But don’t stress too much about it. The sections are timed, but have few questions in the sections.

Also, get plenty of rest, eat a nice breakfast, bring a snack, and bring all of your materials including plenty of number two pencils, an eraser, and a calculator. With confidence and plenty of studying, you will do great.

Hi, Lindsay,

I think one of my friends on the school baseball team might be using steroids. I don’t know how to ask or what I should do if he is using. What should I do?

-From a concerned friend

Dear Concerned Friend,

I sure hope your friend isn’t using steroids. Many athletes think that steroids will help them but in the long run, it just hurts them. There are some physical effects to the use of the steroids. Steroids can cause some personality changes due to its control on the human mind. It can cause one to be more aggressive and light fused. This is called “roid-rage.”

The user can also have intense jealousy rages, become paranoid and have extremely bad judgment. If you think this friend is using steroids, talk to them. Let them know that while it might help their game, it is not helping their body.
