Lindsay helps navigate relationships

Dear Lindsay,

I kind of have a crush on my guy friend, but I don’t know how to tell if he likes me as more than a friend. We held hands once. Does that mean he likes me?

-Wanting More

Dear Wanting More,

There are many signs to tell if a guy likes you. Sometimes if he seems nervous, or is very flirty with you is a definite sign.

The holding hands thing is interesting though. I don’t know the full story with that but it sounds like you two have a thing. Be straight with him. Tell him you like him. You’ll never know the reaction you’ll get until you try.

Dear Lindsay,

This guy from school asked me out, but I don’t really know him that well. Should I go on a date alone with him or with a group of friends?

-No Lone Ranger

Dear No Lone Ranger,

When I’m in this situation, I grab my right hand man, or girl in this case, my best friend. When you’re getting to know someone for the first time, things could get awkward fast. Tell him to bring some friends and then you’ll bring some friends. You can all get to know each other and see if there’s chemistry between the two of you. Don’t fully ignore him either. Try to talk to him. If you feel that he’s worth it, go out with him again but just you two.

Dear Lindsay,

I am a senior and my younger brother is always trying to tag along when I go out with my friends. I don’t want to hurt his feelings, but I don’t always want to take him along. What can I do?

-Sick of Sibling

Dear Sick of Sibling,

I understand the dilemma with younger siblings. Let them know that sometimes you want to do your own thing. Set time aside where you two can hang out. This way no one is really hurt, and you can hang with your friends.

Dear Lindsay,

Since my friend started dating this guy, she only calls me to hang out when he is busy. How can I tell her that it bothers me?

-Third Wheel

Dear Third Wheel,

The only way to tell her how you feel is to tell her to her face. Let her know that you are happy for her, but that you don’t like how she’s always with him. Let her know that you want to hang out, but not when it’s convenient for her.

She needs to tell her boyfriend that she wants to hang out with you. Chances are he’ll get it too, and he’ll be able to hang with his guy friends while you two do your own thing. Friendships are always about compromise, and you should never let a boy ruin it. Tell her, she’ll listen.
