Senioritis: the decreased motivation towards studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school careers.

In simplest terms, it means you just want to get the heck out! I find that this “illness” has been spreading around the high school a lot! But, it’s not just the seniors who get this. As a junior in high school, I’m starting to develop the symptoms as well.

The symptoms are as follows: first, you start to feel more tired. Then you start to go into daydream land and think about how grand life is going to be once you break free from the chains of high school, thus turning your brain into mush. And finally, soon you’ll have a calendar connected to you, as you count the days towards the little square that says “graduation!”

It seems like every time I see a senior I know, I’ll say, “Hey, how are you?” and all I’ll get in reply is, “June 6th, June 6th!” I guess now we can rule loss of vocabulary a symptom as well.

But what if you slowly find that you’re getting it, even if you’re not a senior? If you have it as a junior, then what is that called? Depression?

My junior year has been, well, quite busy. I started to get involved, and it worked, but now I feel like I have too much. And now with all this talk of college, no wonder why I’m just tossing the books aside and saying, “I’m done!” But yet, I can’t be done! I have another entire year left! I just recently signed up for classes for next year, plus summer school, plus all these extra curricular activities? How does one do it? My mother always told me, “Get involved, you’ll regret it if you don’t, just like I did!” Well, I got involved, and now it’s quickly starting catch up to me. Thanks, mom.

This all makes me realize that if I have it bad now, next year it’s going to be even worse! I’ll actually be a senior and have an excuse to have senioritis.

That’s a horrible word in itself. Who made up that word? I wonder, if you have it as a junior, is it called junioritis? I have a feeling that my high school career as I know it is pretty much shot. My symptoms will slowly start to morph into new ones that no one has even heard of! I have made a decision; I don’t want to be a senior!
