A search for gainful employment

Q: My parents told me I have to get a job this summer for the first time. How do I find a fun job that won’t be boring all summer?

– Looking for Work

A: Dear Looking for Work,

I know exactly how you feel. My parents told me the same thing this past year. Work is not easy to find. What I did was grab an application anywhere I could get one, then figured out where I would want to work. Sometimes, you can’t always get what you want when it comes to jobs, but try to figure out what it is you like to do. Anywhere you go, you are bound to find they are hiring. Chances are, your first job will be in fast food. It’s not as bad as it sounds. To make things fun, try to apply with friends or people you know. I’m not saying socialize – I’m saying when you work with people you know, you are more comfortable. And believe me, it is a great feeling to have your OWN money in your pocket!

Q: I am a 15-year-old guy and my older brother and I sometimes use my mom’s computer. When he downloads dirty videos or photos, he blames it on me and I get in trouble. What should I do?

– From Trouble in Cyberspace

A: Dear Trouble,

You are pretty troubled, aren’t you? I’m sorry to hear that this is happening. You should definitely tell your mom about all of this. Your brother shouldn’t be doing that in the first place, especially if it is your mother’s computer. How old is he anyway? It is illegal to download things like that if you are under the age of 18. Let your mother know he is the one who is downloading these videos, and if she still doesn’t believe you, stay as far away from that computer as much as possible. If you need to use the computer, use it while your mother is home. That way, she can monitor you and see that the times that the videos are being downloaded are the times that you are not on. I’m sure she will soon put two and two together, and realize that your brother is the one to blame.
