It’s time for back-to-school jitters
Dear Lindsay,
I am taking an AP class that seems like it might be a little
hard for me. I want to drop it so how should I approach my parents
about it?
-Stuck in AP
Dear Stuck in AP,
Telling your parents the truth shouldn’t be a hard thing to do.
If you feel like you won’t do well in the class, then it would be a
good thing to drop out before it is too late. Your parents will be
impressed and understanding at the fact you know you will not do so
great, and that you came to them to talk about it. They won’t force
you to take it if it makes you uncomfortable. Just tell them that
you feel it is best if you drop out and take a regular English
class because you know you will get a better grade.

Dear Stuck in AP,

Dear Lindsay,

I just got a job and I am a little worried about keeping up my hours and studying. Do you have any suggestions for balance work and school?

-Out of Balance

Dear Out of Balance,

I know juggling both is very hard to do. Just remember that school always comes first. If you are still in high school, then your employer should not be forcing you to work full time. At the high school we have block scheduling, meaning you have first, second, and third one day (red day) and fourth, fifth and sixth the next (white day). A lot of people wait until the night before. Do not do that. This could slowly catch up to you, therefore it is best to do your school work right when you get it. If you work later, then do your work right after school. If you work right after school, do it when you get home. Don’t let Myspace or the television distract you. Just pace yourself. If you feel like you can’t handle doing both, then you might need to quit the job.

Dear Lindsay,

I have been a vegetarian for a while, but some of my friends make fun of me for it. It really bothers me, but I don’t know how to get them to stop. What should I do?

 -Veggie Fanatic.

Dear Veggie Fanatic,

If they are your true friends, they should not be making fun of you for it. Your choice is your choice and they should learn to deal with it. They may not realize that it upsets you. Let them know that it bothers you and that if it were them, you would not be making fun of them. There is no reason for them to push you around because of the way you eat. I’m sure that once they realize it hurts you, they’ll stop, and let you live on with your healthy lifestyle.

Dear Lindsay,

I get sick of having the same thing for lunch every day at school. Do you have any suggestions for mixing it up?

-Fed Up With Food.

Dear Fed Up,

Sometimes schools don’t always have things that are appealing to you. It is best to pack your own lunch and bring money for a snack. Make sure to pack a lunch with lots of color. Pack fruit or veggies, and maybe a sandwich. Then at school, you can buy a drink or something else. You don’t need to pack the same thing everyday. Just explore your options and let your taste buds do the rest.
