What to do about summer job blues
Dear Lindsay,
I’ll be a senior next year, and I just want to enjoy my summer,
but my parents keep hassling me about getting a job. I’m a good
student, and I work hard at school. I’d kind of like to relax over
break. Plus, the thought of that first job makes me a little
nervous. What should I do?

Dear Happily Unemployed,
Jobs are hard to get. And they are pretty important at this age. I strongly suggest you go to anywhere you can think of and ask for an application. There’s no need to be nervous, it’s just a question. When you have collected them all, take a look at what you got. Make a pile of where you would like to work or where you wouldn’t. It could take a while to get hired, though, so you can still relax while waiting.
Dear Lindsay,
My mom and older sister fight constantly, and I don’t know how to explain to them that it upsets me. I’m two years younger and I feel I’ve been assigned to the role of “good girl,” just to keep the peace around the house and that’s a lot of pressure. Sometimes I can’t even sleep or eat I get so upset. Is there anything I can do make them see how I feel?
-From Unwilling Peacemaker
Dear Peacemaker,
I’m sorry about your mother and sister. Do you know why they fight? There are many reasons why, and I’m sure it’s nothing you really need to worry about. But if it does upset you, you need to sit your mother and your sister down and tell them how you feel. Depending on your age, it’s pretty crucial to have a sister and a mother to look up to, and it’s not helping you with them fighting all the time. Let them realize that it affects those around them, and they need to learn to tone it down and realize that there are more important things in the world than fighting. Talking to them will make them realize that their fighting is silly and that they need to solve things once and for all.
