Eating disorders, crushes and other teen stuff
Dear Lindsay,
My best friend doesn’t eat a lot at school or when we hang out.
She is losing a lot of weight and I think she might have an eating
disorder. How can I tell if she does and what can I do to help
her?

Dear Lindsay,
My best friend doesn’t eat a lot at school or when we hang out. She is losing a lot of weight and I think she might have an eating disorder. How can I tell if she does and what can I do to help her?
-From Worried about weight loss
Dear Worried,
This is very serious. It could lead to a lot of health problems as well as death. Usually there is something that triggers this behavior. Is she in a sport or has anyone said anything to her? These are questions you need to ask her. You need to tell her parents so they can help her. It could be too late to do anything yourself, but a doctor could sure help her. It may take her time to be able to eat again. No matter how hard she fights, it’s a serious problem. Let her know that there are better ways to lose weight. Maybe when she gets a little better, you two could go to a gym, or just take walks together. The only thing you can do is get her to a doctor.
Dear Lindsay,
Whenever guys like my best friend, they use me to find out how much she likes them. I am kind of caught in the middle because two guys like her and they blame me because she doesn’t want to go out with them. I don’t know how to tell them I don’t want to be involved with it. What should I do?
-From Stuck in the middle
Dear Stuck in the Middle,
This is certainly an interesting topic. You need to tell these boys that you are not going to be the messenger. If they want her, they need to talk to her themselves. Let them get mad, who cares? Just say what’s on your mind. Let her know you will not be involved in this. It’s simply killing the messenger, if you’ve heard that phrase before. Just let them know you are going to keep your mouth shut. If they tell you something, just shrug it off. They will definitely get the hint soon.
Dear Lindsay,
I have been hanging out with a guy as friends for a while and I think I like him. Whenever we go out to the movies or lunch, he always pays and he seems really nice. He has never tried to hold my hand or kiss me, though. How can I tell if he likes me?
-From Confused about a crush
Dear Confused,
My advice to you is to work your way up to it. Ask him questions like if he likes someone. If he says he does, try to get him to tell you who. If that doesn’t seem to work, then maybe you should just tell him you like him. The worst he could say is he doesn’t like you. Or maybe he might surprise you and say he likes you, too. Take a chance!
