Back to school blues

Dear Lindsay,

I am a freshman at San Benito High School this year and I am nervous about finding my way around the campus. What can I do to prepare?

-New to School

Dear New to School,

It’s perfectly normal for you to feel nervous. I know I was.

On Friday, August 17, we will be having freshman orientation. You will soon be getting a phone call from your Link Crew member for more details. Link Crew, of which I belong, has been preparing games and activities for you to get comfortable. It also includes a tour of the campus and we will be showing you where your classrooms are.

These Link crew members will be your guide during your whole freshman year. If you have a question, or feel lost, just call them up or go up to them at school and they’ll help you out. That’s what we are here for. If not, you can always look for me. I’ll be there.

Dear Lindsay,

I want to get more involved at the high school this year, but I am not sure what clubs are available. How can I get involved and find out more about clubs and activities?

-Wants to Get Involved

Dear Wants to Get Involved,

There are many different clubs at the high school, and the chances of you finding the right one is big.

Each year we have what is called “club info day.” On this day, each club the high school has to offer sets up a booth and gives you information on what their club is about and an opportunity to sign up. You may sign up for as much as you think you can handle.

If that doesn’t work out for you, you can always run for class office or ASB.

It’s a great way to get involved, meet new people and show your spirit.

Dear Lindsay,

I really want to see the “So you think you can dance” tour when they come to San Jose, but my boyfriend refuses to go see it with me. What can I do to persuade him?

-He Won’t Go

Dear He Won’t Go,

It’s really hard to persuade a guy to do things.

If you have tickets already, then that’s a great accomplishment because those tickets are hard to get. Let him know that you tried hard to get the tickets and that you would really appreciate the time you two will be spending together.

But if he doesn’t want to go, then you can’t force him. Take a friend, and make sure to tell him all the fun he missed out on.

Dear Lindsay,

My parents got me a nice pair of sunglasses for my birthday and I lost them. I don’t know how to tell them without getting in trouble. Any suggestions?

-Lost Sunglasses

Dear Lost Sunglasses,

I’m sure that if you tell them honestly and that it wasn’t on purpose, they can’t full on punish you for that. They may be disappointed, but it will feel good to get it off your chest.
