The San Benito County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will
recognize San Benito Land Title as its business of the year at the
annual Awards and Installation Banquet.
The San Benito County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will recognize San Benito Land Title as its business of the year at the annual Awards and Installation Banquet Wednesday, Jan. 29 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club.
The chamber will also honor its corporate sponsors and install the 2003 officers and board of directors at the banquet, its main event of the year.
Chamber board member Julie Palafox said San Benito Land Title was selected as business of the year for its community involvement.
“They contribute profusely to the welfare of the community, supporting many community events throughout the year including the chamber’s luncheon,” she said.
It’s the chamber’s sponsors who allow it to feature guest speakers from the community at its monthly lunch meetings.
“Depending on who they are, these speakers give us information about the work they do and what it means to the community,” Palafox said, adding that the informational luncheons provide an important service to the community.
“But without our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to bring these speakers here,” she said.
When Judge Steven Sanders was elected to the bench in November, the chamber invited him to a meeting to discuss the way the judicial system works. The chamber also sponsored a candidates forum before the elections, which gave people an opportunity to ask questions and to learn about the candidates.
“These luncheons give our members an idea what these public officials do in office,” Palafox said.
The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m. with a no-host bar, followed by dinner, the installation of officers and the awards.
“We have no frills, no dancing, because we’re not that big,” Palafox said. “We don’t have a theme except to raise money for our scholarship awards.”
The chamber counts on raffle prizes and donations for its scholarship programs. Last year, four $500 scholarships were given to local students. This year the chamber awarded eight $500 scholarships.
“The amount we give away goes up every year,” said Palafox.
