Mormons to clean venue south of Tres Pinos on May 8
In response to how the struggling economy has impacted local, regional and state parks, approximately 100 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will donate their time on May 8 to clean up the county historical park on Airline Highway south of Tres Pinos.
An expected 75,000 volunteers, ages 8 and up, will participate in the “Mormon Helping Hands – Renewing California Parks” service projects. Mormons throughout the state have worked with park and civic officials to identify park improvement projects.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, volunteers will repaint and clean the windows of the Garcia House, Sullivan House, school house and saloon at the historic park, as well as sorting and stacking wood from the dance hall floor. Participants will also rake and weed the park grounds and replace and move a grape stake fence.
Volunteers will wear yellow Mormon Helping Hands vests, the official attire of church members while participating in humanitarian service projects and disaster relief efforts throughout the world.
