Our first Red Phone caller of the week asked the Crimson
Crusader to get something done about the annoying potholes
littering the alley on Suitor Street. The Crimson Crusader made a
call over to Street Supervisor Ray Rojas at the Hollister Public
Works Department to find out what could be done. Rojas said that
his crews are struggling to keep up with potholes along Hollister’s
main thoroughfares, given present labor shortages and proposed
budget cuts. However, Rojas said he hopes to have a crew out there
to fill in those holes as soon as he possibly can.

“Even with the cuts, we’ll continue to do the best we can,” Rojas said.

Thanks to Civil servants

Our second Red Phone caller offered thanks to the Crimson Crusader for doing an “awesome” job this year promptly answering calls, complaints and questions. The Crimson Crusader appreciates such comments, but the real credit goes to the city and county employees who do all the work. The Crimson Crusader’s work is merely a reflection of the hard work done by these fine folks. And merry Christmas to you too, dear caller.

Taking Down the Tree

The next Red Phone caller asked the Crimson Crusader about the best way to dispose of her Christmas tree. Well, dear caller, you’re in luck. The Crimson Crusader has done extensive research on this topic and will provide you with two disposal options forthwith: The first method of getting rid of your Christmas tree is to call on the local Boy Scouts. Local Boy Scout troops will pick up old Christmas trees in Hollister and San Juan Bautista beginning at 9am Jan. 6, 7 and 13. The scouts will pick up your used Christmas tree for a $7 donation. Leave the tree at the curb by 9am and the scouts will recycle it. Donations will support Boy Scout activities and the Gerry Rawn Endowment Fund. To confirm pickup availability or for more information call Troop 463 in Hollister at 638-9646 or Troop 428 in SJB at 623-4360.

The second method of disposing of your Christmas tree is to cut it up into small pieces that will fit in a 32-gallon trash bag and leave it with the rest of your regular garbage collection items.

City Holiday Hours

Our next Red Phone caller asked the Free Lance to print a list of city and county offices that will be closed on various dates throughout the holidays. The Free Lance printed just such a list in Friday’s newspaper. However, our hero has reprinted it below for everyone’s benefit:

Don’t forget to call

Our final Red Phone matter of the week, again, concerns the Crimson Crusader’s coming departure. Our hero is headed for Canada to search for buried treasure at Oak Island and will be away from the Red Phone during the week of Dec. 25 to Jan. 1. Nonetheless, the Crimson Crusader welcomes Red Phone calls during the absence. All calls will be answered promptly upon the Crimson Crusader’s return.
