Nearly 700 guests enjoyed a turkey and tritip meal on Christmas day during the annual Marley Holte Holiday Dinner at Sacred Heart School’s O’Reilly Hall.

That number surpasses last year’s 550 guests, according to organizer Larry Brown.

More than 100 volunteers helped prepare and serve the free meal, which has been a local tradition for more than 20 years.

“We had a cross-section of people,” Brown said. “Some were just there to meet other people and for some it was their Christmas dinner.”

Santa Claus and his helpers were on hand to hand out presents to children and Christmas music played as the guests ate.

Organizers are already planning for next years’ Thanksgiving and Christmas Holte Holiday Dinners, with donations and volunteer offers rolling in.

Brown encourages anyone interested in participating in the meals to contact him at 637-9037. Planning meetings are scheduled in January as well as in the summer and fall.
