Hollister American and Hollister National will go at it in the District 9 9-10 All-Stars title game for the second consecutive year and third time in the past four years. Hollister American A, which had been involved in three one-run games in a row, finally caught a breather in Sunday’s 13-3 win over Continental. Hollister National A qualified for tonight’s championship game with a 10-0 defeat of Continental on Saturday at Continental Field.

The two Hollister LL teams meet tonight at Salinas-Continental Field at 5:30 p.m. with Hollister National holding the hammer. An ‘if’ game will be played Tuesday at Continental, also at 5:30 p.m.

Bryan Granger went 3-4 with a double to pace Hollister American on Sunday. Will Cross also went 3-4 and struck out eight in six innings to pick up the victory. Other contributers include Kallin Corotto, who doubled, and Darin Gillies, who went 2-3. Also chipping in were Garrett Haggard (2-3) and Andre Lucas (2-2).

Hollister American A survived a wild 10-9 victory against Hollister American B on Friday. Hollister American B was actually up 6-2 midway through the game thanks to Craig Slibsager’s two-run single.

Down 10-6, Conner Steven jumpstarted a comeback with a single. Marcus Sabbate beat out a bunt single. With two out, Cody Gessell singled in a run. Tanner Carrillo-Zazueta singled in another. Matt Burley singled in American B’s final run of the game.

“It was a game for the ages,” said Hollister American B coach Mitch Burley, whose American B’s were involved in a few wild games during the tournament.

Daniel Arevalo’s two-run home run in the first inning sparked Hollister National in its big win over Continental. Arevalo narrowly missed another home run when he doubled off the fence. Jahz Gonzalez pitched all six innings for the victory.

“We played tight defense,” said National manager Jerry Sepulveda.

Rolo Robles made an outstanding defensive play in the outfield according to Sepulveda.

The five-team Section 5 Tournament will be held at Vets Park this weekend. The D9 winner enjoys a first round bye and plays Friday’s D12-D39 victor Saturday at 11 a.m. on Field 2. Other Districts in the field include D59 and D44.
